Hello Limpopo! Top 12 grade 12 learners get a taste of telecommunication

Wednesday 5 June 2019
In an era when there are countless career paths for learners to pursue after finishing school, many students don’t know what they’d like to study.

This is why Save the Children SA partner, Global Communications (GC) hosted a career day for 12 of the top performing Grade 12 pupils from Limpopo. The event helped pupils to learn about the importance of telecommunications and the two-way radio industry in the times of modern day technology.

Career prospects that the learners were introduced to at GC included electrical engineering, accounting, sales, human resources, marketing and project management. They also learnt about GC’s Internship programme.
Pamela Dlomu from Marimane High School said that this experience had made her realise that opportunities exist.

The 18-year-old was also inspired by a female employee, ‘TK’ at the company. ‘I am now thinking of becoming an electrical engineer like TK. I didn’t think such jobs were for women. I have really learned a lot during this trip, because I did not know what to do after finishing my matric. I plan on keeping contact with TK so that I can learn more about the job she does and steps to take to get there,’ said Pamela.
