A partnership that works for the children

“I am overwhelmed by such beautiful energies of the children and the work that is being done in giving these kids an opportunity to grow. I have been impressed by how we are putting children at the centre of these activities and the parents. We are seeing the good results of how the funds are being used,” said Bvlgari’s Mauro Di Roberto during a recent visit to Limpopo.
The Italian jewellery brand and Save the Children have been working together since 2009. Funds are raised through the sales of an exclusive jewellery collection in silver and black ceramic. The collection includes a ring, pendant and bracelet, of which $100 or more than R1 000 per piece is donated to Save the Children. The partnership has implemented over 114 projects, including in almost 5 000 schools globally. It has improved services and infrastructure, and nearly 50,000 teachers were trained.
In South Africa this is done through a project called Thuto Ke Lefa, which is loosely translated as “education is wealth”. The project aims to enhance the quality of learning outcomes in Literacy and Mathematics in Early Childhood Care, and Development and Foundation Phase for children of Limpopo.
“When we started in 2017, the plans were that we were going to reach just over 1 000 children, but having implemented so extensively we ended up reaching almost 10, 000 children in ECD centres and Foundation Phase. We did not do this alone, but through partnerships,” says Save the Children South Africa’s Programme Director, Gugu Xaba.
Di Roberto has hailed the partnership with Save the Children as “one of the biggest pride,” he has in working for Bvlgari.
