Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement

At Save the Children South Africa, we demand equity, inclusion and justice for all.

We recognize that in order to build a more equitable and inclusive future, we need to start in childhood and therefore we will do whatever it takes to champion the rights of every last child and ensure that all children grow up healthy, educated and safe.

In South Africa, each day we work with some of the most marginalised children, who - from the moment they were born - have suffered injustice and deprivation in every aspect of their lives. If we continue to fail to address systemic inequality in all its forms, these children will continue to be trapped in the cycle of poverty, threatening their futures.

As our founder, Eglantyne Jebb once said, “Change is within reach – if we have courage, determination, imagination and effective organization” – Eglantyne Jebb

We acknowledge that change is required within our own organisation and the wider iNGO sector and we are dedicated to fighting for what is just. We commit to doing even more to promote diversity, equity and inclusion inside our organization, in the communities we serve, and in national and international policies.

As the world's leading expert on child rights, we believe that every child deserves a future. This belief is at the heart of everything we do. We know you share it, too.

We call on all institutions, the public and private sector to join us and commit to doing more to confront and challenge discrimination of all forms and the structures that perpetuate it. Each of us has a role to play in ending systemic discrimination. We must all listen and educate ourselves, each other and our children, and do all that we can, at all levels to support those who will stand up to injustice and actively fight inequality.
