Purpose of Role
The Project Coordinator – Advocacy and Partner Capacity Strengthening will support the implementation of the We See Equal Programme, with a primary focus on strengthening the capacity of local civil society partners, generating and sharing programme learning, and supporting advocacy efforts that advance gender equality, child participation and safe school environments.
The role will oversee and support CSO partners responsible for direct implementation with girls, boys and schools, ensuring programme quality, safeguarding compliance, effective reporting and adherence to Save the Children standards.
The postholder will lead project activities related to partner organisational development, evidence generation, stakeholder engagement, child participation, and policy influence. The role will also contribute to Save the Children South Africa's broader national child protection and child participation advocacy agenda.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Implementation and Coordination
• Coordinate implementation of all project activities in accordance with approved project plans, budgets and timelines.
• Track and implement project plans and schedules and monitor progress against targets.
• Coordinate project logistics, training events, mentoring activities and stakeholder engagements.
• Ensure project activities are implemented in line with SCSA quality standards and donor requirements.
2. Partner Capacity Strengthening and Oversight
• Coordinate implementation of partner capacity strengthening plans.
• Support partner organisations to strengthen safeguarding, child participation, programme quality and MEAL systems.
• Provide ongoing mentoring, coaching and accompaniment to partner staff.
• Monitor partner performance against agreed deliverables, quality standards and workplans.
• Conduct partner support visits and facilitate reflection and learning processes.
• Support localisation objectives by strengthening partner ownership and sustainability.
3. Advocacy and Systems Influence
• Coordinate implementation of the project's advocacy and learning agenda.
• Facilitate engagement with schools, district and provincial education stakeholders.
• Support the development of policy briefs, learning papers, presentations and advocacy materials.
• Identify opportunities to integrate programme learning into government systems and frameworks.
• Promote evidence-based advocacy on gender equality, learner participation and school safety.
• Support children and young people to participate meaningfully in advocacy and decision-making processes.
4. Child Participation and Youth Engagement
• Support implementation of child participation approaches aligned to Save the Children standards.
• Facilitate safe and meaningful participation of children in programme learning and advocacy activities.
• Ensure safeguarding considerations are embedded within all participation activities.
5. Learning, Documentation and Knowledge Management
• Develop case studies, success stories, learning briefs and donor-facing content.
• Coordinate learning and reflection sessions with partners and stakeholders.
• Support dissemination of evidence through workshops, forums and stakeholder engagements.
• Contribute to programme adaptation based on evidence and feedback.
6. Stakeholder Engagement and Partnership Development
• Build and maintain productive relationships with government departments, schools, CSOs and networks.
• Represent Save the Children in relevant advocacy, child protection and education forums.
• Support coordination between implementing partners and key stakeholders.
• Facilitate information sharing and collaborative planning processes.
• Contribute to strengthening local and national advocacy coalitions.
7. Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL)
• Review partner reports and provide feedback on quality and completeness.
• Support collection, analysis and interpretation of programme data.
• Monitor implementation progress against project indicators and milestones.
• Maintain project documentation and evidence files.
• Contribute to donor and internal reporting requirements.

Qualifications
• Diploma in Social Auxiliary Work, Community Development, Child Rights, Development Studies or related field.
• Valid driver's licence.
Experience and Skills
• Entry level experience in advocacy, child protection, child rights, youth development or civil society strengthening.
• Experience working with CSOs and community-based organisations.
• Experience facilitating organisational capacity development and partner support.
• Strong understanding of child participation, safeguarding and gender equality programming.
• Excellent writing, facilitation and communication skills.
• Experience developing reports, policy briefs and learning products.
• Planning, coordination and relationship management skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
• Commitment to children's rights, safeguarding and localisation.
Contract Details
This is a fixed-term position linked to the duration of the We See Equal Programme. The position focuses on partner capacity strengthening, advocacy, learning, systems influence and support to Save the Children's national child protection and child participation agenda.
