Christmas party brings joy to Alex children

Tuesday 25 December 2018
Christmas is a time for giving, and what better way to give back than to spend the day with children? Marriot Hotels recently threw a surprise Christmas party for the children, who attend at our Hlayisanani Early Childhood Development Centre in Alexandra.
As part of the celebrations, Marriot donated close to R100 000 towards upgrades at the centre, including painting the walls of the hall where children eat, play and learn, installing a reading corner, shelves, a sick bay, a new garden area for vegetables and an entirely re-done playground, which will be ready in January.
“We’re grateful for the partnership that we have with Marriot because it goes beyond a single action. It is a partnership that will continue to develop for the benefit of all children and we are excited to see what we can do next.” Dianne McAlpine, Partnerships Manager, SCSA.
During the Christmas party volunteers from Marriot unveiled some of the upgrades to the centre, and spent time with the children. With the help of Reel Gardening, the children learned how to plant vegetables. The children entertained our visitors with music and their slick moves and returned home with gifts and goody bags packed by Community Hours volunteers.
