Culture of Violence in South Africa

Wednesday 12 February 2014

Save the Children South Africa continues to condemn the current scourge of brutality against the children of our country, exemplified by the recent rape and murder of four year old Jasmin Lee Pretorius from Brakpan. “We are appalled by the culture of violence in South Africa, particularly the suffering, abuse and killing of children. We urge all South Africans to join the movement to end violence against women and children” says David Hopwood , CEO.

In 2012 Save the Children South Africa entered into a partnership with UNICEF and the United Nations Population Fund to devise ways to improve security and justice for Women, Girls and Boys in South Africa. The national Safer South Africa for Women and Children project will work with partners to address the root causes of violence through a focus on prevention.  Save the Children will support children in the Free State and throughout the country to act as agents of change for themselves and their community through increasing their knowledge and skills to put an end to all forms of violence, abuse and neglect.
